Affordable Housing

Our Vision for Rochester & Beyond

Transitional & Good Neighbor Homes
Only $11,000 is still needed to finish the purchase of two mobile homes. With a down payment of $7,000, a non-profit in the Twin Cities (Northcountry Cooperative Foundation) sold one of the homes to us in November 2015 which was moved to the Oak Terrace Mobile Home Park. They are financing this home at no interest for 5 years, although we hope to pay it off in 2016. We bought a second home from a family in the Parkside Mobile Home Park. These homes will be used in the following ways:

  • The first home will be used as a “Transitional Home” where families who lose their existing homes to fire or other tragic events, or families who need a temporary place to stay, can live while we work with them to attain permanent housing. There are many families that need their current mobile home repaired or replaced but have nowhere to go in the meantime. This home would help these type of families, as well as families getting back on their feet in our community. Families would cover the costs of utilities and pay rent as they are able. With a serious lack of transitional housing in our area, this is an exciting opportunity! We plan to have this house ready to live in by early 2016.
  • The second home will be a “Good Neighbor Home”. We have a young family committed to volunteering 10 hours/week in the mobile home park in exchange for the cost of their utilities. Their outreach can range from after-school programming to befriending at-risk youth or shut-in adults, to having lots of meals with neighbors in hopes of showing Jesus’ love by building lasting and meaningful relationships. We also hope to have this home ready by January 2016.
  • Ongoing Support – Covering the lot rent and maintenance at each of these homes will require $400.00/month for each unit. For less than $10,000/year, we can provide shelter for a family in need and host another family that will help strengthen the community. These homes fees are covered, thanks to great community support!

Tax-deductible donations can be made a number of ways. Please designate your donation to the “Transitional & Good Neighbor Homes Project.”
